How to edit text in a PDF
For a small correction, you may be able to change the existing PDF directly without converting it to Word. Here is how to check and save the result.
1. Open the original PDF
Open the free PDF text editor and choose your file. Keep an original copy so you can compare the result. RevisePDF processes the document in your browser; you do not need to upload it or create an account.
2. Select the text you want to change
Click or tap the date, name or line on the page. Its text appears in the editing field. On a phone, zoom in to reach small text or open the Editable text list. If the editor cannot safely identify the text, it will explain that the selection is unsupported instead of guessing.
3. Type the correction and check alignment
Replace the old wording in the editing field. For example, you could change a date from 2025–2026 to 2025–2027. The page updates after the editor accepts the change.
Left keeps the original left edge fixed, Right keeps the original right edge fixed, and Centre keeps the original centre fixed. These controls govern how the selected text grows or shrinks; they do not centre a paragraph across the whole page. A longer replacement must fit before the next text or page limit. Neighbouring text does not move out of the way.
4. Link lines for paragraph editing
Use the + controls to link compatible neighbouring lines on the same page. Edit the linked text as one paragraph, then choose Left, Centre, Right or Justify. Justify spaces full lines to the paragraph edges while leaving the final line naturally spaced. Reflow stays within the linked lines: it cannot add pages or push unrelated content down. If the text does not fit, shorten it or link another compatible line. Use Unlink to return to individual line editing.
5. Review before saving
Look at the changed line and the text beside it. If you do not like the result, use Undo; Redo restores an undone change. Check any newly typed letters carefully. Some PDFs embed only part of a font, so not every new character can be reproduced. An unsupported change should be corrected before saving.
6. Save and reopen the edited PDF
Choose Save PDF. Depending on your browser, you will see a save dialog or receive a download. Reopen that file and check the edited text before sending it to someone else. Your active document is held in browser memory, so save it before closing or refreshing the editor.
When to use the source document instead
For adding whole sections, mixing styles within a paragraph or moving text between pages, edit the original Word, Google Docs or design file and export a fresh PDF. RevisePDF reflows explicitly linked compatible lines; it does not provide whole-document reflow, OCR or drawing tools. If nothing on the page can be selected, read why a PDF might not be editable.
